Journal, Journal, Wherefore Art Thou Journal?

“How many of us begin a new record with each day of our lives?”

            ― Bram Stoker, Dracula

The notion of journaling is not a new idea.  People have - since the beginning of scribing image and language - sought to keep a record of what has been their lot.  Sometimes writing a ledger of what they have been doing, have done, or hope to do.  Other times inner feelings and responses to the lives they live, have lived, and hope to live.

Many people keep a journal as a "seed-bed" for other forms of writing.  They journal routinely, coming  back to the journal to find what they will transplant into a garden of verse, or essay, or long-hand.  A place to hold onto things until they are ready to produce.

Do you journal?  How does your journal feed the growth of your craft - what'ere it be?
